Promotion of education

thyssenkrupp sees education as an essential key to social progress and prosperity. Our aim is therefore to steadily improve the availability and quality of education. With our extensive projects we facilitate access to education, improve the general education infrastructure, and promote the opportunities for advancement of talented young people.

SOS Children’s Villages: Project SEED to improve youth employability

thyssenkrupp, through its Elevator Technology business area, is empowering its employees to help unprivileged youth, they are encouraged to use part of their work time to volunteer as trainers, mentors and role models, offering their expertise and access to their professional social networks to support young people in regions with severe youth unemployment rates. The project names SEED, standing for Support, Educate, Elevate and Develop. In the first chapter of Project SEED, up to 60 youth of the SOS Children’s Villages NGO in Bogota, Colombia, will receive assistance from thyssenkrupp and its employees in the form of soft and basic skills training, career guidance, entrepreneurship support and real-world work experience. The additional chapters of the first phase of project SEED will be Brazil and India, a total of approximately 300 youth will benefit from the project’s first phase. Supporting underprivileged communities in cities around the world is part of thyssenkrupp's vision of making cities the best places to live. In today’s world, youth unemployment is a considerable social tragedy, with one third of young people worldwide without access to education, training or a job of any kind. 40% of the world’s unemployed people are youth aged 15-24, according to the International Labor Organisation. SOS Children's Villages is the world’s largest non-governmental organisation focused on supporting children without, or at risk of losing, parental care. The non-denominational organisation was founded in 1949 and today has a presence in 135 countries and territories.
